Summary: Smart Brightness is designed with a strict privacy-by-design architecture. We do not track, collect, or store your browsing history, page contents, keystrokes, or personal identity. Core dimming features execute 100% locally and offline in your browser.

1. Data Collection & Processing

Smart Brightness operates under the principle of minimal data access:

• Free Tier Users: Zero network requests are made to our servers. The extension executes entirely locally within your browser.
• Web Content & History: The extension modifies CSS styles and visual overlays within your active browser tabs. It never transmits web URLs, DOM tree content, passwords, form entries, or search history.
• Settings & Preferences: Your dimming preferences, hotkeys, and per-site brightness settings are stored locally on your device using Chrome's native storage (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local).

2. Premium Licencing & Payment Data

If you purchase a Smart Brightness Premium licence or start a trial:

• Payments: All payment transactions are handled directly by Paddle.com (our Merchant of Record). We do not receive, store, or process credit card numbers or banking credentials.
• Licence Verification: To validate licence status, the extension exchanges an anonymous device identifier and a cryptographically signed token with our licence server.

3. Permissions Used

• storage: To save your brightness and warm color preferences locally.
• activeTab / scripting: To insert the visual dimming layer into the web pages you visit.
• alarms: To schedule smooth circadian daylight transitions in the background.

4. Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell, rent, monetize, or disclose your data to third-party advertisers, data brokers, or analytics networks.
